MANAGING SOLID WASTE IN THE PRINTING INDUSTRY WITH BAILING MACHINES

“Monetize your company’s recovered waste into huge income generation with our Premium Bailing Machines” These were the words of the Chief Executive Officer of Land & Environmental Capital, Mr. Fola Rusewe, a dealer of Premium Bailing Machine, and an Environmental Management and Consulting Firm in Nigeria

Printers Digest magazine had a one-on-one interview session with Mr. Rusewe to educate the publics on how to monetize the company’s waste into an income generating product in an efficiency manner.

Here is an excerpt from the interview

Q: Sir, kindly give us a background information on the product

A: The product we have here is a bailing machine, it is generally a hydraulic press that compacts materials into a dense package of a specific size.

Q: Tell us how the Baling machines work?

A: Our machines are for industries and companies that create more paper waste, they must realize that paper has high recyclable value, which in return becomes a means of income generation for such an organization. Our bailing machines are of premium quality and offer the following for the paper industries:

  • It helps to compact paper waste and makes it easier to transport from one place to another.
  • It also increases the resalable value of paper waste. The bailing machine sorts the waste into an aggregator and compresses them into another product for recycling.
  • It reduces carbon footprint by recycling papers and solid wastes
  • Creates job opportunities for people, talking about people that are going to be involved in aggregating paper and people selling waste papers and also making a living out of it.
  • Add value to recovered waste, for example, people in agriculture used waste or recycled paper to make egg crates and even recycled other paper products
  • Saves energy by implementing automated processes and reduces labour intensity at a circle time
  • It will help paper-user companies to manage their space

Also, we are bringing in training for our baling users so that they know how to provide periodic maintenance use of the system to have the best efficiency and value for their organization

Q: Is the machine readily available?

A: Yes, we have the machines here in Nigeria. We have the B. V6 which is the low-density baling machine and we also have B. V7 which is the high-density baling machine. They more or less do the same thing but their capacity and strength divers, B. V6 is of low density because it can produce a maximum of 65kg per bale and has a monthly capacity of 10 tons of paper waste while B. V7 has a high density and a monthly capacity of 20 tons of paper waste. Also, the weight of B. V6 is 400kilogram and the weight of the waste it produces is between 60-65kg and has a round force which refers to the force that comes on the paper which is 3.5 tons that’s just like a weight of a vehicle coming down on a load of paper, it also has a circle time of 15 seconds, meaning that it will create that bale in 15 seconds, it is operated by the gear-pump engine, it’s automated, not manual it’s a press and play mechanism. It is designed to operate with the level of our voltage here in Nigeria, and operates in 220-230 volts, so you just plug it into the wall and it’s ready to go while B.V7 on the other hand has a higher capacity, it produces a bale weight of between 120 kilograms

Q: How technical is this machine when it comes to its usage?

A: It is automated. It works by pressing a button and doesn’t require hard labor and the training is something we can just put clients through within two hours or less. It’s easy to operate and has a servicing indicator system that means when it is due for servicing there’s an indicator light that comes up maybe every three months to tell you the machine is due for servicing or a sign to notify you to check your hydrohalic oil because it’s been lubricated by hydrohalic oil and you can get the oil at any lubricant oil. We are also positioning ourselves in partnership with the manufacturer to also provide spare part systems and ongoing training and servicing meaning that our users can always rely on ongoing servicing

Q: Tell us about your after-service offer for your clients?

A: It’s basic. It may include spare parts replacement, oil lubrication, and cleaning. Our maintenance services are not too extensive unless a major thing has gone wrong like I said the mechanism is supposed to last long and the guarantee is six (6) months. It is not open-ended; we have to make sure you are using it correctly.

Q: So, what’s the durability of these machines?

A: Very durable and also energy efficient. The energy consumption for the B.V6 is 2.5 horsepower, for the B.V7 is 5 horsepower, the other market comparison that is from China consumes 16 horsepower which means their own consumes a lot of energy to function meanwhile with the level of our machine it can be power by the local generator as long as it has that capacity under five (5) horsepower, so its energy is sufficient and not noisy. It is stable and not earth-shaking cause I have seen some baling machines from other manufacturers, that if you power it, make a noise like a grinding machine but ours is noiseless.

Q: Is there any other thing you will like to tell us about these machines?

A: Our machines are premium machines and they can handle different volumes of waste. We are introducing this to the printing industry because we recognize them as one of the major industrial generators of solid waste and paper waste based on the nature of their work, and we feel our equipment will be very useful for them and they can also create their awareness in terms of sustainability because by the time you can manage your waste in a more sustainable way you are passing a message to your customers, even some financial institution there are some things they check on to see how sustainable you are, are you just generating waste? how are you treating your waste, we’re trying to position our machines for them to make use of them.

Q: What are the significant quality differences between your product and other baling machines in the local market?

A: Well, there are a lot of quality features in our baling machines which cannot be compared to others in the local market. The following are special differentiating features that our premium baling machines have that cannot be compared with other standard baling equipment in the local market.

  • Steel Construction: Our machines have been fabricated with higher quality steel frames which will guarantee more extended durability for the users.
  • Top quality parts: The mechanical components such as the gear pump, hydraulic valves, sensors, etc…are top quality and sourced from reputable international manufacturers.
  • Power Efficiency: Our baling machines are more efficient and will complete more baling cycles with less energy consumption. The BV 6 has a power drive of 1.5 KV /2 HP, while the BV 7 has a power drive of 4KV / 5.36 HP.
  • Power Input: The voltage input has been customized to 220 volts (Nigerian standard)
  • Available Spare Parts: We also provide spare parts and after-sales services.
  • Safety Indicators: The machines have an LED light indicator for safe operational use such as service time, maximum loading capacity, high pressure, and electrical current
