TOKYO, Japan – Seiko Epson Corporation (TSE: 6724, “Epson”) will participate in “Future Creation Robot Week,” held at the EXPO Exhibition Center “WASSE” as part of Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan. The event is organized by the Future Creation Robot Week Executive Committee and will run from Sunday, July 13 to Saturday, July 19, 2025.
“Future Creation Robot Week” is an experiential exhibition aligned with the Expo’s overarching theme, “Designing Future Society for Our Lives.” It highlights how robotics can advance Japan’s renowned manufacturing and hospitality services, showcasing innovative concepts for building a sustainable and prosperous society. The event centers on the people and technologies shaping the future of robotics.
Epson will present its interactive exhibit, “Pop-up Pirate*: Precision Duel – Human vs Robot x Force Sensor,” a highlight from the International Robot Exhibition 2023 at Tokyo Big Sight that attracted significant media attention.
This engaging demonstration features a 6-axis vertically articulated robot equipped with Epson’s proprietary force sensor system. The robot inserts a sword into the slots of a barrel in the classic party game “Pop-up Pirate” (distributed by TOMY Company, Ltd.), which marks its 50th anniversary this year. When the pirate figure pops up, the robot swiftly catches it with a net attached to its arm before it lands on the table.
The force sensor leverages Epson’s proprietary quartz crystal piezoelectric sensing technology, offering high sensitivity and rigidity. This allows the robot to perform intricate, tactile tasks—such as inserting parts into tight spaces—that typically require a human touch.
Visitors to Epson’s booth will have the opportunity to challenge the robot to a game of Pop-Up Pirate and witness firsthand the speed and precision enabled by Epson’s robotic systems in a fun, interactive format.
