Koenig & Bauer Durst Unveils VariJET 106 at drupa 2024

Koenig & Bauer Durst, a global provider of folding carton and corrugated digital press systems and software services, is set to showcase the VariJET 106 for the first time in public at drupa in Dusseldorf, Germany, from May 28 to July 7, 2024.

The VariJET 106, developed through a collaborative effort leveraging the expertise of both parent companies, will take center stage with daily demonstrations at booth A31-1 in Hall 16. Throughout the exhibition, the press will be engaged in multiple production runs, highlighting applications for diverse markets such as pharmaceuticals, health and beauty products, and food and beverage.

At the exhibition, Koenig & Bauer Durst will present the VariJET 106 in a hybrid configuration linked with Koenig & Bauer’s Rapida offset press technology and workflow, showcasing an integrated production story that includes the latest in die-cutting and folding gluer technology.

Also in focus will be the Delta SPC 130, a market-proven press used in corrugated applications, part of Koenig & Bauer Durst’s single-pass digital sheet-fed press portfolio. A dedicated control station will demonstrate the Delta SPC 130’s capabilities within a production environment, utilizing Durst Workflow and Durst Analytics.

Koenig & Bauer Durst will highlight industry innovations, including the introduction of printing on predominantly brown substrates using water-based digital white for primary food packaging—a pioneering achievement announced at the recent SPC Open House. This advancement opens up new possibilities in packaging, enabling printing on plain brown or lower-grade whiteboards.

The company hosted two customer-focused events ahead of drupa—the SPC Open House in Durst Austria in March and the VariJET Open House in Radebeul, Germany, in April.

Daniel Velema, Managing Director of Koenig & Bauer Durst, expressed excitement about showcasing the VariJET 106 at drupa, emphasizing its role in combining conventional and digital printing technologies. He noted that drupa marks a significant milestone in the company’s journey within the folding carton and corrugated markets, signaling a tipping point for digital transformation.

Velema further emphasized Koenig & Bauer Durst’s commitment to supporting customers in their digital journey, leveraging the strength of two industry giants to drive substantial growth and enhance efficiency and flexibility for printers and converters in the packaging industry.
