President /Chairman –in-council of Nigerian Publishers Association Mr. Gbadega Adedapo has called on government to create an enabling working environment for book publishers in Nigeria to operate in.
This call was made during the 2018 annual conference and general meeting of Nigerian Publishers Association held recently at Lagos Sheraton Hotel, Lagos Nigeria with the theme: The Book; An Instrument of National Integration
According Mr. Adedapo, books can be used to achieve the complete realization of the unity we all desire as a country. He encouraged publishers to see the book as an agent of unification, an instrument of change and as the best legacy that could be bequeathed to one’s children.
His words: ‘‘a well informed society is the one with better education which could only come via the book and if the society is well informed, it’s government would be well managed and cohesion will exist”. He stated
The president pointed out some of the challenges faced by publishers, among them are book piracies, poor power supply, enabling environment for publishing books, reviving the moribund paper mills, high tariffs on printing consumables among others.
Furthermore, the outing executive council of the association was dissolved during the conference as stipulated by the constitution of Nigeria Publishers Association which states that election should be carried out after every two years. The electoral officers conducted an election which returned all the out gone executives as a result of job well done in the past two years and should be rewarded with another term in office to complete the projects they have already started.
