The printing industry and academic community in Nigeria are in deep mourning following the sudden passing of Mal. Usaini Hussaini Abdullahi, a revered figure in both fields. Mal. Usaini, a retired Chief Lecturer and former Head of the Department of Printing Technology at Kano State Polytechnic, passed away early this morning after a brief illness caused by complications from a partial stroke. He was 64 years old.
Born in 1960 in Kano, Mal. Usaini’s remarkable career began after he completed his education in Printing Technology at Kaduna Polytechnic and fulfilled his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) obligations in 1986. He joined Kano State Polytechnic in 1987, rising through the ranks from Instructor to Chief Lecturer. His academic journey included earning his first and second degrees from the prestigious University of Nigeria, Nsukka.
Throughout his career, Mal. Usaini was known for his unwavering dedication to promoting academic excellence and manpower development in the Department of Printing Technology. His leadership extended beyond the classroom, serving on various academic committees and participating in internal and external moderation processes, accreditations, and re-accreditations of academic programs.
Colleagues and students alike remember him as a kind, helpful, and deeply religious man. He was known for leaving his office promptly at noon on Fridays to attend obligatory prayers at the mosque, demonstrating his strong commitment to his faith. His final years were marked by an even greater devotion to his Creator.
Mal. Usaini’s legacy is not only reflected in the many students he mentored but also in the lives he touched within his community. He is survived by two wives, 17 children (5 males and 12 females), many grandchildren, and numerous siblings.
In accordance with Islamic rites, he was laid to rest today at Gyadigyadi New Graveyard, Court Road, Kano, at 11:00 AM. The entire community mourns the loss of this icon, praying for Allah’s mercy upon him and hoping that Jannatul Firdausi will be his eternal abode.
