President of the Current Chartered Institute of Professional Printers of Nigeria (CIPPON), Mr. Olugbemi Malomo has said that his administration’s failure to employ a substantive registrar for almost two years can be attributed to the underlining interest of some the committee members of his administration.
Mr. Malomo acknowledged the importance of a Registrar in an Institute especially at the pioneering stage during the industry press chat with the current council members recently but expressed regret over the negative attitude of some of the council members who have failed to put the industry first over their personal interest.
According to Mr. Malomo, the need for a substantive Registrar in an Institute like theirs cannot be pushed aside in order to help take up the institute’s initiatives and adequately manage its affairs. “We have a recruitment committee and it took them nine months to have their first meeting and when they did, their report was submitted to the council alongside with only two names recommended for the position of a registrar and those two people were above 60years of age and that age range is against institutional integrity under my watch. Nigeria government doesn’t employ anybody that is above 60years of age and also, there was a bit of politics”. He said
He added: “The council threw away the recommendation and we said to ourselves, let’s get a consultant to recruit a registrar for us and asked the committee to submit names of recruitment agencies, till date, we are still waiting for the agency names and still on institutional integrity, I had to exclude myself from everything that has to do with the appointment of the registrar because I want to ensure institutional integrity and make ensure the appointment is based on merit and not recommendation” Mr. Malomo stated
Questions of free, fair, and credible election devoid of malpractices were asked at the media chat and the President minced no words when he assured the industry of the institute’s watchword – Institutional integrity when he said: “We will ensure the integrity of the election. The council will set up an electoral committee formed with people of integrity. Also, we want the press to dig the files of these people that will form the electoral committee in order to know if they are people of impeccable characters or not. In a few weeks from now, details of the election will be revealed to the public after the council must have met. I want to assure you that there will be fairness, equity, and justice. As an individual, if you feel the selected members of the committee do not meet up to the electoral standard, please bring it to public discussion so that the council can correct that”. Mr. Malomo stated.
Moreso, when asked what legacy he intends to leave behind, he said: “I want to see an industry where irrespective of who you are and what you do, we can be competitive. I want to see an industry where there is fair play in government procurement policies, I want to see an industry where we have an ecosystem where everybody will co-exist together. I want to see an industry where the commonwealth is not exclusive for the few but can be spread to everybody. I want to see an industry where a printer in Abakiliki, Ebonyi state can compete favourable with someone in Abuja, and at the end of the day, fairness prevails. Those are the legacies I want to leave behind”. Mr. Malomo emphasized
