The federal high court of Nigeria, Port Harcourt judicial division has ordered a hold on the proposed annual general meeting of the Chartered Institute of Professional Printers of Nigeria (CIPPON) set to hold on the 6th and 7th of September 2023 at Asaba Delta state, regarding the pending matter in court between parties of the institute. However, the court has declared September 6, 2023 for hearing on the aforementioned suits in the court of law.
This was made known in a statement released on 1st day of September, 2023 signed and approved by barrister Tonye Joshua, the statement disclosed an order for the enforcement of human rights of the Applicants (Mr. Jude Ogar, Mr. Emmanuel Ukar, Mr. Kayode Famurewa, Remi Atanda Joseph, Onyeghani Godfrey Uche, Jerry Ukah) and on behalf of all the concerned and aggrieved members of the institute who will be disenfranchised by the annual general meeting of the chattered institute of professional printers of Nigeria.
Also, the respondents to the court order are; Chattered institute of professional printers of Nigeria (CIPPON), Adesoye Omoniyi, Prince Tadese Taiwo, Moses Odumad and Usman Yakasai.
The statement reads: “take note that the honorable court will be moved on the 6th day of September, 2023 at the hour of 9’0 clock in the forenoon or so soon thereafter as counsel for the applicants may be heard on behalf of the applicant on the following orders:
- A declaration that the annual general meeting of the 1strespondent fixed for 6th and 7th September 2023 or any other date whatsoever under the auspices and the direction of the 2nd and 5th respondents during the prudency of suit no. FHC/CA/CS/162/2022 in which said respondent proposed to shut out the applicants is an infringement on the applicants’ fundamental rights of the freedom of association, dignity of human person and right to freedom and therefore unconstitutionally, null and void.
- An order restraining the respondents, their agents, their servants, privies, or any other persons acting for them or on their behalf for holding and or proceeding with and/or undertaking or carrying out any further steps towards the annual general meeting and award night fixed for the 6th and 7th of September 2023 and/or at any later date whatsoever pending the determination of this application.
And for such further order or orders as this Honorable court may deem fit to make in the circumstances.
