Print Expert and Managing Director, Expand Press Limited – Mr. Babafemi Oluwalana is still making impact in the industry by organizing fantastic webinars, as he recently organized “DESIGN CONVO” for graphic designers some weeks after “GETTING MORE OUT OF YOUR PRINT PROJECTS”.
The “DESIGN CONVO” webinar was held on zoom meeting with four panelists including the convener [Babafemi Oluwalana], Dupe Olayebi (MD, Prints Packs & Innovations LTD) Kehinde Osho (Graphics Designer, USA), Brendan Inyang (CEO, Ekidio LTD) and Gokay Oludare (Entrepreneur/ Graphics Artist). The webinar discussion was focused on graphic design in Nigeria and the many issues Graphic Designers face amongst themselves.
The virtual event served as an eye opener to the participants as it unveiled some hidden facts to some graphic designers in the Nigerian printing industry especially the young graphic designers. It is however necessary to note here that a better part of this webinar was geared towards the young graphics designers.
The webinar lasted for 1 hour 30 minutes. When asked for last words Dupe Olayebi said that beyond one’s creativity; no matter how good a graphic designer might be he should be able to learn from others. He mentioned that as a younger graphics designer or printer one should learn from older ones in the industry.
Kehinde Osho on his part encouraged younger Graphic Designers not to try to learn everything at once. He also said “Don’t chase the money, develop your craft and money will come don’t start at a very big shop start where you know you will be able to learn.”
Furthermore, Brendan Inyang spoke and dwelt on the mindset of the Graphic Artist. He advised Graphics Artist that the way they see themselves is very important, he stressed that Graphic Designers should not look down on themselves but rather see themselves as being capable to deliver.
Babafemi however noted that making mistakes is not bad, on this note he advised Graphic Designers to belong to groups where they can rub minds with other people and where their mistakes can be corrected. Also he introduced a Facebook group for graphic designers called GRAPHICS TRIBE NAIJA.
