IRVINE, California — Wide-format digital imaging specialist Roland DGA has unveiled an upgraded UV Direct-to-Film (DTF) transfer system engineered to improve usability, productivity, and application flexibility across its UV flatbed printer portfolio.
The new solution combines UV-DTFA Print Sheets with UV-DTFB Transfer Film, designed to operate seamlessly with the company’s Versa OBJECT™ MO Series benchtop printers, Versa OBJECT CO-i Series large-format models, and Versa STUDIO BD Series desktop UV flatbeds. Working in tandem, the media deliver enhanced dimensional stability while eliminating adhesive residue, alongside adhesion performance claimed to be up to twice that of competing UV DTF solutions.
A key innovation lies in the layered construction of the UV-DTFB transfer film, which streamlines workflow and supports a more efficient transfer process.
Boosting color impact and substrate versatility The system has been developed to maximize the performance of Roland DG’s V-BOND inks by enabling high-impact graphics to be printed onto transfer media and subsequently applied to a wide range of objects. This approach produces vivid color reproduction, improved durability, and strong adhesion while requiring fewer print layers and ensuring precise dot placement.
For users of Versa STUDIO BD-8 and BD-12 desktop UV printers, pairing the UV DTF workflow with ECO-UV 5 inks unlocks additional creative opportunities and production capabilities.
Importantly, the technology makes it possible to embellish items that are traditionally difficult or impractical to print on directly, opening the door to premium decorative applications across diverse product categories.
Simplified workflow for personalized production The UV DTF transfer process has been designed for simplicity and accessibility. After printing the desired graphic onto a print sheet, operators overlay the transfer film and apply light manual pressure before peeling away the sheet, leaving the UV ink securely bonded to the object surface.
This streamlined workflow allows even inexperienced users to create customized and personalized products across an extensive range of three-dimensional items, including oversized or irregularly shaped objects.
Transferred graphics are engineered for durability and scratch resistance, with dishwasher testing demonstrating strong performance on many glass substrates previously considered unsuitable for decoration. Print service providers can either complete the transfer on behalf of clients or supply pre-printed transfer sheets for customer self-application.
