Komori Corporation has announced the opening of its newly upgraded Komori Graphic Technology Center (KGC) Smart Factory at the Tsukuba Plant in Japan. The facility has undergone significant renovations, marking the third phase of its development as part of Komori’s ongoing efforts to meet the evolving demands of the printing industry and promote sustainable practices.
The upgraded KGC Smart Factory is designed to tackle key challenges in the printing industry, such as the need for greater efficiency in handling smaller print jobs, faster turnaround times, and the rising costs of materials and energy. Central to the facility’s operation is a new control room that oversees the entire production process in real-time, powered by Komori’s KP-Connect Pro Manufacturing Execution System (MES). This technology enables factory managers to monitor and control each stage of production, from prepress to postpress, with enhanced accuracy.
Komori’s Connected Automation framework integrates all stages of the production process, supported by a network of partnerships within the printing industry. The use of autonomous mobile robots and other advanced equipment further automates tasks such as plate transportation, optimizing the workflow for improved efficiency.
The KGC Smart Factory also serves as a platform for collaboration and innovation. Through Komori’s KP-Connect Alliance Program, which has been expanding since its launch in 2016, the company continues to foster partnerships aimed at advancing print technology.
In addition to its technological advancements, Komori continues its focus on education through the KGC Printing College. The institution offers training and seminars to equip the next generation of print professionals with the skills needed to operate in a smart factory environment.
